What is Fasting?

Fasting is setting aside temporary comforts, like food, to intentionally draw closer to God. It exposes how often we rely on earthly comforts for strength, and we rely on prayer to  fill that space, reorienting our hearts toward God’s sufficiency. Fasting isn’t about what we give up, but what we gain—deeper intimacy with God and the JOY of feasting on Jesus, the Bread of Life.

Fasting isn’t just for times of crisis or for “super spiritual” Christians—it’s for every believer. Jesus said, “When you fast” (Matthew 6:16), showing that fasting is a normal and powerful part of the Christian life. Through fasting, we learn to depend on God more fully and experience the fullness of His presence.
Biblical fasting isn’t just skipping meals—it’s a way to pursue God and draw closer to His heart.

What is prayer?

Prayer is both the privilege and responsibility of every believer, and through it, we come to know God more deeply, experience His presence more fully, and align our lives with His divine will.

Prayer takes many forms—adoration, confession, thanksgiving, and supplication—but it is ultimately the posture of our hearts before a holy and loving God. In prayer, we acknowledge the Lord's sovereignty and our need for His grace and guidance, and in turn, we yield to the Holy Spirit, who leads us into deeper understanding, conviction, and transformation.

Prayer is the means by which God’s will is made manifest in our lives, and how we partner with Him in His work on earth; bringing us into alignment with His eternal purposes.

Scripture References:
James 4:8, 1 Thessalonians 5:17, Jeremiah 33:3, Matthew 6:10, James 5:16, Psalm 145:18

Fasting is a reminder that we are not self-sufficient; it dismantles our illusion of control.
Prayer anchors us in the truth that God is both our sustainer and provider.
Together, they cultivate a life that looks beyond the immediate to the eternal.
The beauty of fasting and prayer is not found in our effort or sacrifice but in the gift of God’s presence, our greatest reward!!
